Crane's Whoop

This blog was created to discuss freedom and responsibility.

I was born in the first half of the last century in Trenton, New Jersey on April 19, 1948. Adolph Hitler had committed suicide less than three years before; the Peace Treaty with Japan was still three years into the future (Sep 1951), but at least the fighting of the Second World War was over. Joining me in this world were Charles - Prince of Wales, Al Gore, Jimmy Cliff, Stevie Nicks, Wolf Blitzer, Garry Trudeau, Peggy Flemming, and Abu Abbas. Leaving were Babe Ruth, Mohandas Ghandi, Sergy Eisenstein, David Wark Griffith, John J. Pershing, and Orville Wright. The transistor had been invented a year before. The Berlin Blockade began. Israel became an independent state. The U.S. Supreme Court declared religious instruction in Public Schools unconstitutional. President Truman issued the second peacetime draft in U.S. history; then defeated Thomas E. Dewey in the November election. Warner Brothers showed the first color newsreel in theaters. Hell’s Angels Motorcycle Club was formed. And I was blissfully ignorant and innocent of all these things.

Looters

Crane's Whoop Katrina didn't do enough damage to New Orleans. We have hordes of looters breaking into stores and stealing not just foodstuffs (I could understand that - the food would only spoil anyway), but they are loading up on TVs, computers, CDs, DVDs, beer and liquor, jewellry and anything else that they may be able to sell. Certainly they are not going to be watching TV or surfing the Net since the power is out. Police are outnumbered and have better things to do (Like conduct search and rescure ops) than round up a bunch of thugs and low lifes.
